Re-Elect Principal Chief Chad Smith

Working together, we did what we said we would do.

Specifically, these are just a few accomplishments in the area of Health Care:
  • Added more than 1,000 jobs just since FY2005
  • Added 188,106 square feet in health care facilities during last decade, which translates to an 81% increase in space dedicated to the health of Cherokees. This square footage includes the new clinics in Muskogee and Nowata, and the new EMS building, among other projects
  • Added more than 15 doctors to the staff at Hastings Hospital, in areas like general surgery, orthopedic surgery, emergency room, internal medicine, OB/GYN, infectious disease, and more.
  • New programs added including Respitory Therapy, Bariatric Programs, Mammography, Sleep Studies, and more.
  • Grown the health budget 1,600% -- from $18M in FY1999 to $288M in FY2011

We will complete our long-range health plan by, among other projects:
  • Building new clinics in Jay, Vinita and Bartlesville
  • Expanding facilities on the 45-acre medical campus at Hastings Hospital
  • Explore the opportunity to offer affordable health insurance to all Cherokee       citizens

Our commitment to the expansion, modernization and streamlining of our healthcare system has made us the model to tribes all over the country.
